The day after

The thing that causes me the greatest sadness is knowing that even with all the work I put into that article, it won’t make any difference. I’ll be dismissed as an obsessed fan who doesn’t like what she hears. Which is silly because I was a fan even when I knew he was supposedly a jerk. Being hard to work with is something I’ve heard so many times i just don’t care. We’re artists and artists are perfectionists – I can see how that would wind other people up.

And drugs? Not to be flippant. But I’ve lost three people I love to that as well as my own problems with them.

None of it bothered me.

It was only until I started reading interviews with him that I saw a different side – a different person – who was thoughtful, considerate, and funny. The moody asshole was nowhere in sight. Yes, he struggles with interviews and what to say, but don’t we all. Doing those things most be like doing job interviews over and over – imagine what a nightmare that is!

I guess, ultimately, all I can say is that I tried. That’s all I can do.
